What is custom licensing?

Custom licensing lets you get a pattern on your own terms, straight from the artist.

There are three kinds of deal:

  • Same pattern, your terms. You license a pattern as it is, but you choose the products, the countries, how long, and how exclusive.
  • An adapted pattern. The artist changes an existing pattern for you — for example a new colorway, a different scale, or a vector version.
  • A commission. The artist makes a new pattern from your brief. The artist may show you concept sketches first, so you can pick a direction.

Every deal follows the same steps: you send a request, the artist sends one offer with a price, you both sign a plain-English agreement, you pay, and Patterned holds the money until you accept the files.

Custom licensing is invite-only for brands right now. See Who can use custom licensing?
