How should I prepare my files for licensing?

When you license a pattern on Patterned, a buyer getting a commercial or exclusive license will download a PSD or AI file.

Please follow these general guidelines:

  • Organize your layers so the file is neat and easy to navigate.
  • Group related elements logically (for example: background, motifs, textures).
  • Name layers clearly so buyers can understand your structure.
  • Flattened files are OK - as long as the PSD file as a whole is high-resolution and provides the full pattern.
  • If you showcase multiple colorways as part of a pattern, you must include all of those colorways in the PSD or AI file in an orderly format (separate layer groups, artboards, or folders).

Required specs for PNG/JPG files for personal licensing:

  • Dimensions:  shortest edge at least 3000px at 144dpi
  • Resolution:  PNGs at 24-bit lossless, JPGs at highest resolution
  • File size: 1gb max file size
  • Color format:  RGB

Recommended file specs for PSD files for commercial or exclusive licensing:

  • Dimensions: shortest edge at least 3000px @ min 144dpi (PSD only)
  • File size: 5gb max
  • Color format: RGB

✨ A clean, well-prepared file makes your work more appealing and increases buyer confidence.
